SMT OPERATOR - Richmond, Canada (December 4, 2008)
Point Grey Research® Inc. is looking for an experienced, responsible, and highly organized SMT Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be working under minimal supervision in a team environment, and will be expected to operate and monitor our SMT equipment.
Shift hours are from 4PM to 12:30AM Monday through Friday, or 4PM to 12:30AM Tuesday through Friday and 10AM- 6:30PM Saturday (to be determined).
Day shift training: Must be able to train during the day for 1 to 3 months (8AM – 4:30PM).
General Duties and Tasks
- Operate and monitor SMT equipment
- Use a solder paste stencil machine
- Load proper components onto a pick and place machine
- Operate the reflow oven
- Perform quality inspections at each stage to ensure correct assemblies are produced
Skills and Qualifications
- Prior experience operating surface mount equipment (of any make) is required
- Ability to recognize and identify a variety of electronic components from industry standard marking and packaging
- Ability to read and understand Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing process instructions (QIFs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), IPC 610D – Standards for Electronic Assemblies, J-STD-001 – Requirements for Soldered Electrical
- Must be comfortable with ESD and RoHS concepts
- IPC_610 Class 3 certified soldering a plus
- Ability to provide quality control line inspection
- Ability to work in a team oriented environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate ideas to team members
- Good command of spoken and written English
- Strong manual dexterity skills
- Strong computer skills

INSIDE SALES SUPPORT - Richmond, Canada (November 18, 2008)
Point Grey Research® Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized individual to fill the position of Inside Sales Support. This is an ideal position for a person with excellent communication skills and great problem/conflict resolution skills, wanting to grow with our company.
General Duties and Tasks
The role of an Inside Sales Support is to kick-start the sales cycle by qualifying all in-bound sales enquiries. You will be responsible for:
- Educating potential customers about our innovative industrial camera systems
- Managing each sale to completion
- Providing product specification and pricing information
- Preparing official quotes, entering orders and payment details
- Sending order confirmation to each client and tracking orders through to details
- Managing and maintaining long term relationships with existing clients
- Providing backup support for field sales personnel who focus on selling to OEM organizations
Skills and Qualifications
- 2-3 years experience in an office environment
- Proven ability to successfully interact with and manage satisfied clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service, inter-personal and organizational skills
- Proficient computer skills with high attention to accuracy of details
- Experience using an SFA or CRM tool to log and track your sales activities (ie: Pivotal, Microsoft CRM)
- Must be fluent in English, other languages would be an asset
- Experience dealing with international customers would be an asset
- Technical diploma or undergraduate degree an asset

TECHNICAL SUPPORT ANALYST - Ludwigsburg, Germany (October 21, 2008)
The Technical Support Analyst will work as part of the Support and Applications Engineering Team out of the Ludwigsburg office. In this role they will provide technical assistance to users of Point Grey's advanced digital camera technology products around the world. Point Grey's products are often incorporated into large and complex applications by highly educated and technically knowledgeable end users, resulting in unique and challenging problems to solve.
Responsibilities
- Assist OEMs, distributors and end users in troubleshooting hardware, firmware and software issues (primarily through e-mail)
- Provide support to sales team members in responding to customer technical questions
- Issue RMAs, where necessary, for the return and repair of Point Grey hardware products
- Update corporate website pages and technical support section content
- Write knowledge base articles, and update technical reference manuals and end user documentation
- Work closely with the engineering and software development teams to resolve issues and bugs
- Perform quality assurance testing on Point Grey software development kits and camera firmware
Please note: this is not an IT or system administration position. Networking skills or educational background will not be considered.
Skills and Qualifications
- Required Skills
- German and English fluent in spoken and written, other languages would be an asset
- Exceptional problem solving and communication skills
- Excellent all-around technical knowledge (PC hardware, software, general programming)
- Strong customer service skills and/or support experience
- Ability to be responsible, reliable, and well organized
- Good knowledge of C, C++ or other object-oriented programming language
- Good understanding of HTML and other web development languages
- Diploma in computer systems technology or software development (IT certificates not accepted)
- Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of FireWire and the IEEE-1394 standard
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering or embedded systems fundamentals
